Thermoforest Products are dimensionally stable, chemical free, aesthetically pleasing, and yet competitively priced. Our system uses extreme temperatures in a controlled environment minimizing the warping, splintering, and cracking that often results from traditional kiln drying.
A key element to the re-engineering was to create a true “value added” product, one that can enter the market place in mass volumes at a highly competitive price point. All while meeting the requirements of the NAFTA agreement thereby avoiding tariffs upon entering the U.S. market.
The ThermoForest process can improve the quality of any wood. Our process adds value to not only popular softwoods but also underutilized species making them highly desirable for commercial manufacturing. And hardwoods can be treated to take on the appearance of exotic wood species. Once treated, domestic species can be compared to rare tropical woods for their outward appearance.
Thermowood’s ability to resist uptake of moisture, as well as attack by mold, fungus and insects, is due to the compression and fusing modifications within the cell which reduces the elements mold and insects feed on. This combination, along with its low moisture content (MC) of approximately 5-8%MC, creates a highly sought after product.
Its warm colour, fine grain, and overall aesthetically attractive appearance, are all qualities sought after by a number of industries for use in the manufacturing of furniture, architectural details for homes and offices, and even musical instruments.
According to a recent study by Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, ON):
1. Humidity is reduced to as little as 2%
2. A 30% increase in R value
3. Twisting and warping is reduced up to 70% (compared to a typical drying process)
4. Weight is reduced by 5% to 20%, depending on the species
5. Rot resistance is greatly enhanced
6. Environmentally sound process confirmed
7. Qualified as a “value added” product
