Thermowood was pioneered 15 years ago in Mantta Finland. For the past nine years thermowood has been commercially produced in a joint project with the Tampere University of Technology in Finland, Europe. VTT (the patent holder) granted international licensing rights to Licentia (Finland). Today there are thermowood operations in Finland, Norway, and Germany.
Since we began in 2001, Superior Thermowood has worked on “made in Canada” engineering and design developments. Our current EcoDryer represents the second generation of the design with dozens of improvements to the process and the equipment. In August 2003, Superior Thermowood was granted a license to produce thermowood products, manufacture and sell thermowood equipment and sub-license manufacturers across North America from Licentia.
Today, we are North America’s most experienced thermowood company, producing Superior Thermowood products and manufacturing state-of-the-art EcoDryers for sale to sub-licencees.

April 2001 – STW’s founders travel to Finland to see the process first hand. While impressed with the product they saw great potential in the process.
August 2001 – Superior Thermowood, North American Operations purchases the rights to produce thermowood products.
August 2003 – Superior Thermowood, North American Operations acquired the North American rights for Thermowood technology from Licentia/VTT in Finland.
September 2005 – STW unveils its second, evolved thermowood prototype - that will go on to be called the EcoDryer.
